In June 1956, when the Botany department began it catered to the needs of students who took the Pre-University II group. In June 1957, when the degree course in Zoology was started Botany was a subsidiary paper and it continued to initiate students into the wonderful world o flora. By June 1979 there were three batches of pre-degree (II Group). With the advent of the Interdisciplinary M.Sc. Environmental Science course in January 2000, the department also shouldered the responsibility for its conduct. The department co-organized the National Seminar on Current Environmental Problems and Management. Two members of the faculty have undertaken UGC minor Projects. From 2013 onwards, Botany department offers M.Sc. in Botany (self financing)
