Department of Zoology

The Department which was started in 1961, offers B.Sc. programme with an intake of 36 students, and M.Sc. programme (started in 1966), with an intake of 12 students. It became a recognized research centre in 1973 and has an intake of 24 scholars. The Department offers a UGC funded career oriented course entitled “Seed production and culturing of edible and Ornamental fishes.” The Department has a sound faculty all possessing Doctoral degree. Our faculty also has ample international exposure.
 

So far, nineteen research scholars of this Department have received their doctoral degree. Currently, there are 22 research scholars. The Department is supported by DST-FIST and has five well-equipped Research labs. The Department has so far obtained Research Grants to the tune of one crore and eighteen lakhs of rupees, including 98.28 lakhs obtained during the last five years. The total number of publications is 218.
The Department has a very attractive museum loaded with many precious and rare specimens. The Department derives much strength from its alumni, working in prestigious institutes and Universities in India, U.S.A., Europe, Australia, and Asia. ZAAC, Zoology Alumni Association of Christ College, organizes annual meetings on a regular basis. The Department also conducts seminars and workshops on a regular basis
