Admission Requirements
For admission to the degree of B.Th. the applicant shall have the degree of B.Ph. or shall have completed the Diploma course in Philosophy offered at the DVK, or a two year course in Philosophy, either by devoting the major part of two years to the academic study of philosophical subjects and subjects connected with philosophy, such as anthropology, psychology, sociology and history of science or by covering the same subjects through a period extending beyond two years. The provision of doing the B.Th. with the one year Diploma course in Philosophy is applicable only for non-clerical students.

Bachelor of Theology Programme

• It is a three year course (six semesters). Apart from the principal and subsidiary subjects, the Biblical Theology ‘Viva Voce’ in the 4thsemester, Moral Theology Viva Voce in the 5th semester ‘Comprehensive Written' and ‘Viva Vice' examinations in the 6th semester and the Biblical Theology ‘Viva Voce’ in the 4th semester, each student of BTh is required to do the following:
• Three Optionals (only one Optional every year). Publication of a Theological Article under the guidance of a professor can be an alternative to the Optional in the Third Year. Each optional merits one credit.
• Three Seminars (only one Seminar every year). Publication of a review of a theological book under the guidance of a professor can be an alternative to the seminar in the third year. Each seminar merits two credits.
• Rural and Social Exposure Programme: II year Theology students have to do “Rural and Social Exposure Programme” at the end of the first semester. They have to prepare a paper under the direction of the director, and present the same in the class. This programme carries two credits.
• Research Paper: Each candidate for the degree of BTh is required to write a Research Paper in any area of theological reflection. The student selects the topic of the Research Paper and the director. They are to be approved by the Dean of the Faculty.  Once approved, the subject and the director should not be changed except with the permission of the Dean. The Registration and Approval of the Research Paper should be done in the first semester of III BTh. The length of the Research Paper is a minimum of 12,000 words and maximum of 21,000 words.  The approved research papers by the respective directors have to be submitted to the DVK office in a hard copy as well as soft copy on the prescribed date.

Other Requirements

• One yearly seminar or publication of a review of a theological book under the guidance of a professor.
• Participation in the Faculty Seminar and on the spot written reports (total 1500- 1800 words) of each session (25 marks).
• Participation in the Endowment Lectures and on the spot written reports (total 1500-1800 words) of each session (25 marks).
• Moral Theology Viva Voce Exam
• Comprehensive Viva voce in Biblical Theology
• Final Comprehensive Viva Voce
• Finial Comprehensive Written
• BTh Research Paper and its presentation

Pastoral Seminars

Pastoral Seminar at the BTh level is planned for effective pastoral training and theologically oriented preparation for pastoral ministry. This programme is a project Work conducted as a tutorial, with proper field work, under the guidance of a staff member of DVK appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology and, if needed, with the guidance of a competent animator from the field of the selected Project Work, approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology. The guide from DVK for the Project Work is called Tutor. The programme is called Pastoral Seminar as it is accredited equivalent to a seminar in DVK. Students can also work as a team under the same tutor. However, each one should submit individual project work for the final evaluation. Students can take up projects from the areas specified below:

• Retreat Preaching (Bible-Centred)
• Children and Youth
• Adults and Religious
• Catechetical and Liturgical Expositions
• For Catechism Classes (Both for Children and Adult Catechesis)
• For Liturgical Services (Specifically for the Celebration of All Sacraments)
• For Prayer Meetings (Based on All Liturgical Seasons)
• Bible Classes for Different Age-Groups
• School-Going Age-Groups
• Youth Groups
•  Adults

The student shall take up one of the sub-items from any of the three main areas mentioned above and select the Tutor and get the project work approved by the Dean, Faculty of Theology. Under the Tutor the student has to define the project and envisage the mode of field work with research methodology. There will be a minimum of three common meetings of all who do pastoral seminar in an academic year together with all the Tutors of the year. In the common meeting all students have to furnish reports on the progress of their projects followed by discussions and evaluations. Finally the project has to be concluded with a written seminar paper by each student submitted to the office of DVK for the final evaluation by the concerned Tutor.

 It is the duty of the Tutor to instruct the student at every level of the Project to work personally so as to succeed in bringing out a well planned and processed work. The project should have all detailed descriptions and steps of field analysis, collected data, reflections, contextualization methods and effective synthesis for execution in view of bringing the target group to an enhanced faith-experience. The medium of language can be either English or the vernacular suitable to the envisaged project. The student may take a whole academic year to complete the project, but in any case, a copy of the completed Project Work should be submitted in hard and soft copies, with the approval of the Tutor, to the DVK office for evaluation before the beginning of the study leave in the second semester.
