History of the Department
The Department of Social Work (Aided) was established in the year 1995-96 in response to the College’s responsibility to address the issues of the Society. The Department was inaugurated by Dr Kiran Bedi IPS. Since its inception, the Department of Social Work is actively involved in providing evidence-based, quality oriented social work education through most advanced and emerging domains of practice, research and field interventions. It has also engaged itself in strengthening social work practice, research and field projects. The Department offers Masters Degree in Social Work with specializations in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work and Rural & Urban Community Development. The Department also offers a Certificate Course in Basic Counselling Skills for the UG students of Vimala College. The Continuing Professional Development Programme for trained Social Workers initiated by the Department provides a venue for the professionals to enhance knowledge, expertise and competence. The Department offered PG Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling under UGC’s Innovative Programmes from 2005 to 2010. The Department is recognized as the research centre for Social Work in the year 2017.
Graduate Attributes
All Social Work students of Vimala College are expected to possess the following attributes at a level appropriate to their year of study.
