Master of Social Work (MSW): The Department offers Masters Degree in Social Work with specializations in Rural & Urban Community Development and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work
Admission to Social Work Programme: Based on Common Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Personal interview.
Basic Qualification–50% aggregate marks for Graduate programme
Curriculum: The Department periodically updates Social Work curriculum in order to keep pace with the changing trends and local and global demands. The course design has a balanced blend of class room teaching, field practicum and research. The Department advocates strong rights based and strengths based approach in the curriculum.

PhD in Social Work: The Department is a recognized research centre for Social Work under the University of Calicut. Dr Minimol K Jose and Dr Jaya Cherian are the approved research guides of the centre. Six Scholars have been registred in the centre for PhD Programme in Social Work. The rules and regulations of the University of Calicut are followed by the research centre.

The Department has been collaborating with local, state and national level voluntary and non voluntary organizations for training, research and field practicum.These organisations provide field work opportunities to the students for applying what they learned in the classrooms and for work with real life situations and act as learning laboratories, giving students valuable exposure to the role and functions, responsibilities, challenges and opportunities of professional social workers in the contemporary society.
Certificate Course
The Department of Social Work offers certificate course on Basic Counselling Skills as an add on course for the students of Vimala College. The duration of the course is 36 hours with examinations The students from any bachelor programme can join for the course with maximum intake of 50 students.
